Discover the vermeille coast by exploring the coastal path, you will discover totally preserved coves and fortified towns. The coastal path going from Racou to Collioure, also called "path of the customs officers" is a must on the hiking trails of Collioure. Located on the edge of the cliff, it overlooks the smugglers' path, which is located at the edge of the water on the rocky coast. After Collioure, you can then continue on the coastal path going to the Spanish border via Port Vendres, Cap Béar, Banyuls, Cerbere. Steep passages are to be expected to go to the creeks of the Ouille. The arrival on the gravel beach is via a staircase with several steps (see photos below). Beyond the beach, the terrain is a little steep at first then easier until Collioure. After Ouille beach, the stairs leading to the stadium can be dangerous, it is advisable to hold your children by the hand. Itinerary to Collioure: Facing the sea, walk along the seafront almost to the end of the beach, reach the small square between the two houses, then go up to the left on the tarmac. At the top, follow the markers. The route then evolved into a ledge with a series of stairs going up and down, then you will pass alongside a campsite. Walk along the beach of Ouille, climb the cliff using the stairs. The path passes below Fort Carré de Collioure. Then turn right uphill to reach the fort car park. By taking the Pla de las Fourques road, go to the center of Collioure.
The coastal path offers a very beautiful 32 km hike from Argelès-sur-Mer to Cerbère. You will notably pass through Racou, Collioure, Port Vendres, Cap Béar, Paulilles and Cerbère... You will discover beaches, coves, villages, heritage sites and many picturesque landscapes. The coastal path is therefore a very good way to discover the region. Between Port-Vendres and Banyuls-sur-Mer, Anse de Paulilles is one of the most beautiful beaches in the region, and its transparent water invites at bathing. This route continues to Banyuls-sur-Mer in the art center, where many artists have been inspired. Many capes (Cap Abeille, Cap Rédéris, Cap Peyrefite and Cap Canadell) lead you through the Cerbère-Banyuls marine nature reserve. Finally, the Spanish border, Cerbère and its solar lighthouse are close by.
